Galaxy Resources Australia Limited (Galaxy) is intending to increase production at its Mt Cattlin Spodumene Project to 1.6 mtpa. The increased production rate will require a total water demand of 626,000 kL pa, which is some 342,000 kL pa in excess of that currently available from tailings return, site catchment dams and the existing borefield.
Verbrec was commissioned to investigate the water demand, assess potential water resources and develop a strategy for meeting the supply shortfall. The investigation produced recommendations for mine site dam and pumping upgrades supplemented by a new tank farm and 40 km supply pipeline.
