Verbrec has been engaged to deliver the Underground Fixed Plant Maintenance Tactics Development & Optimisation project at Oyu Tolgoi, one of the world’s largest copper and gold mining operations, located in Mongolia’s South Gobi region.
This significant project reinforces Verbrec’s capability to deliver complex asset management and reliability engineering services for major global mining clients.
Supporting Oyu Tolgoi’s Underground Operations
Oyu Tolgoi’s underground operations are among the most advanced in the world, with fixed plant systems playing a critical role in maintaining continuous production. Recognised as one of the most modern, safe and sustainable mining operations globally, Oyu Tolgoi’s combined open-pit and underground operations are expected to produce around 500,000 tonnes of copper per year at peak production.
Verbrec’s engagement will focus on improving how these fixed plant assets are maintained to maximise reliability, efficiency and long-term performance.
Asset Management Project Scope
Verbrec’s asset management team will deliver a thorough review of existing maintenance practices across Oyu Tolgoi’s underground fixed plant assets, including:
- Assessing current practices across maintenance tactics, spare parts and equipment reliability
- Designing and recommending optimised maintenance strategies for underground fixed plant equipment
- Collaborating with site and Rio Tinto subject matter experts to align actions with operational goals
- Providing leadership and hands-on guidance to site teams throughout implementation
- Delivering documentation, targeted training and ongoing support to embed improvements sustainably
Expanding Verbrec’s Global Mining Capability
Dominic Wood, Verbrec’s General Manager, Asset Management, said the project reflects the strength of Verbrec’s growing capability in the global mining sector.
“It’s a strong opportunity for us to demonstrate our value as a trusted partner, backed by the depth of technical capability across our delivery teams.
We look forward to successfully completing the project and many more opportunities to demonstrate our capabilities providing asset management solutions across the global mining sector.”
The engagement reinforces Verbrec’s growing footprint in asset management and reliability engineering for the global resources sector, building on the company’s track record delivering complex, multi-disciplinary maintenance optimisation programmes for Tier 1 mining clients.
