Our team has been selected as principal contractor for the design and construction of the new headworks at the Levin Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Horowhenua District, New Zealand.
With a lump sum value of NZ$15.1 million (approximately AU$12.3 million), the contract is scheduled for completion within 16 months of award.
The Horowhenua District Council selected Verbrec as head contractor responsible for delivering design, procuring process equipment, project and construction management, and commissioning.
The full scope of work covers:
- Design across process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, control, civil, structural and geotechnical disciplines, including safety in design and HAZOP workshops, permits, certifications and consents
- Supply, fabrication and installation of process equipment
- The headworks structure, including channels, grit chambers and a lift pump wet well, together with the motor control centre and generator buildings
- Tie-in pipework to existing connection points across the plant and stormwater infrastructure
- The complete electrical, instrumentation and control scope, including the headworks motor control centre, instrumentation, PLC and control hardware, and communications to the main control room
- Pre-commissioning and commissioning.
Together with established New Zealand delivery partners, our team will perform civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation and mechanical construction.
The headworks project is the first of a series of upgrades planned at the Levin plant, forming part of Horowhenua District Council’s wider estimated NZ$111 million investment programme through to 2053 to modernise ageing infrastructure and support the community’s future wastewater needs.
Across New Zealand, similar investment in wastewater infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as councils plan for population growth, reliability and long-term resilience.
Building on Verbrec’s established experience in Australia’s water industry, the Levin project strengthens our delivery presence in New Zealand and demonstrates our multidisciplinary capability to deliver complex wastewater infrastructure upgrades.
