The largest regional mining event in Australia, the Queensland Mining & Engineering Exhibition (QME) is taking place in Mackay from July 23-25. This event is set to be an enlightening experience for industry professionals dedicated to sustainability and the future of energy.
A highlight of the expo will be a number of thought-provoking seminar sessions. One of these panel discussions is titled “Journey to Net Zero: are We There Yet?”, moderated by Mark Read, CEO of Verbrec. This discussion promises to delve deep into the pressing questions surrounding Australia’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions and the broader implications for the global push towards climate neutrality by 2050.
As the world transitions away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy sources, the concept of a ‘just transition’ raises several important questions that this panel aims to address:
- What are the implications for failing to decarbonise?
- Is there any way to offset the expense of investing in clean energy sources and emissions mitigation technology?
- What is the political backdrop and are we likely to see changes in legislative framework with changes in government?
- Where is the low-hanging fruit… What steps can we take now to get some quick wins?
- How do we obtain the resources and talent to support a transition to low emissions and what are the options for deploying them?
