Australian engineering services company Verbrec has been awarded two long duration battery energy storage (LDBES) concept studies.

These trials will explore two distinct battery storage technologies, marking their first application in Australia. Each battery will be a 50-megawatt (MW) energy storage system, with the trials set to take place in Queensland.

The objective of these trials is to evaluate the feasibility and integration of these battery technologies. The insights gained will contribute to advancing long-duration energy storage, supporting the transition to renewable energy sources.

Verbrec Chief Executive Officer Mark Read emphasized the importance of the project, noting its potential to position Verbrec at the forefront of emerging technologies.

“We are thrilled to be involved in this transformative project, which promises to enhance the reliability of low-carbon power systems and represents a significant shift in how electricity is generated, stored, and consumed,” said Read
