Strengthening dewatering reliability in a critical mining zone

Verbrec was engaged to integrate a critical dewatering pump station at Olympic Dam, supporting increased underground water inflows in a newly developed mining area.

With no existing dewatering infrastructure in place, the project required a reliable and fully integrated control system to support continuous operations. Verbrec delivered control system integration for the Emeralds 48L Dewatering Pump Station, ensuring seamless performance within a live mining environment and reducing operational risk across one of Australia’s most significant mining operations.

Testing and on-site support delivered for seamless transition

Expanding capability in a live operational environment

The project centred on integrating a new dewatering pump station into an existing mining operation with increasing water management demands.

Verbrec was initially engaged to integrate the OEM pump station into the Process Control Network, but the scope expanded significantly as additional control system responsibilities were reallocated. This growth was managed by a multidisciplinary team that maintained strong technical responsiveness, clear communication and consistent delivery performance, ensuring the project remained aligned with operational requirements.

Bridging standalone systems into complex control networks

The integration required a structured approach to connect standalone OEM equipment into a broader, site-wide control ecosystem without disrupting operations.

Verbrec delivered comprehensive control system integration, ensuring the dewatering pump station could operate reliably within defined parameters while managing site-specific challenges. This included advanced PLC configuration, network integration and VSD optimisation, along with hands-on commissioning support to resolve real-world issues and ensure operational readiness. The approach focused on building a stable, scalable control solution that aligned with the existing Process Control Network.

Seamless integration into the Process Control Network (PCN)
Custom control system programming for operational requirements
Advanced PLC, network and VSD configuration
Integration of OEM pump station hardware into existing systems
On-site commissioning and troubleshooting support

Delivering reliable dewatering and reduced operational risk

Ensuring continuous performance in a high-risk, high-demand mining environment

The project delivered a safe, practical and high-quality integration outcome, ensuring the dewatering pump station could operate reliably within a critical mining zone. Verbrec’s involvement extended beyond integration, with on-site troubleshooting, testing and commissioning support ensuring a smooth transition to live operations. The result is improved dewatering reliability, reduced day-to-day operational risk and a stronger foundation for ongoing mining activities.
