How we supported Australia’s Largest Battery Energy Storage project
As Australia accelerates its energy transition, large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are playing a vital role in supporting renewable energy integration and stabilising the National Electricity Market.
In New South Wales, the Eraring Power Station—the country’s largest—is preparing to host one of the most significant battery projects in Australia. Stage one of the Eraring BESS will deliver 460MW of capacity with a four-hour dispatch duration. By storing excess renewable energy and discharging it during periods of high demand, the system will help balance the grid and enable further renewable development.

Verbrec Asset Management was engaged to deliver a comprehensive asset and maintenance management framework within SAP, covering over 50,000 individual assets.
Our role was to ensure the facility entered operation with a robust foundation of preventative maintenance planning, data integrity, and system alignment, positioning the project for safe, efficient, and long-term performance.
Establishing the backbone for Operational Readiness and System Reliability
Our scope included six core readiness areas, each critical to commissioning and sustaining high-performance energy assets.
- Asset data collection and hierarchy development
- Site validation and field verification
- Asset Criticality Assessment and identification of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs)
- Preventative Maintenance Program development
- Materials and spares strategy
- Implementation of the complete asset and maintenance structure within SAP
All deliverables were aligned with the client’s existing systems and industry best practices, ensuring smooth integration into operational frameworks and a digitally connected foundation from the outset. By embedding maintainability into the asset from the beginning, we helped reduce future downtime risks, improve compliance, and support dynamic response to grid demands.
