Ok Tedi Tailings Pipeline Concept / Feasibility

Scope
Extending the mine life beyond the current planned closure date of 2025 would mean ongoing handling and storage of tailings from the mill process was required.
Project Summary

An option is a 125km tailings pipeline running from the mill at the Ok Tedi Mine Site to an expanded tailings storage facility at Bige. This would satisfy environmental standards and obligations.

To help evaluate the pipeline option, Verbrec conducted a conceptual study into the design and construction of the proposed tailings pipeline. This comprised of a constructability review, a concept level design and a cost estimate including hydraulic and sensitivity analysis to varying flow rates.
