Delivering Across the Asset Lifecycle: Verbrec has successfully completed commissioning and operational readiness for the 57-kilometre Atlas to Reedy Creek Pipeline (ARCP) in Queensland’s Surat Basin. This achievement demonstrates Verbrec’s capability to deliver end-to-end solutions that support Australia’s critical energy infrastructure.
Strengthening Australia’s Domestic Energy Future
Located near Wandoan in Queensland’s Surat Basin, this development is Australia’s first gas acreage dedicated entirely to the domestic market. The 57-kilometre Atlas to Reedy Creek Pipeline (ARCP) connects this strategic asset to APA’s Reedy Creek station, allowing affordable and reliable gas to flow directly into the east coast network.
This infrastructure supports a broader expansion, which recently achieved first gas flow to market. The milestone comes at a critical time, with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) forecasting potential gas shortfalls in coming years. Reliable supply from
projects like Atlas is essential to securing the energy needs of Australian manufacturers, households, and industry.
Verbrec has supported this essential infrastructure at every stage, delivering end-to-end services from Front End Engineering Design and Detailed Design through to commissioning and now operations. This integrated delivery model ensures consistency, efficiency and safety
across the asset lifecycle.
Commissioning Success: A Two-Phase Execution Plan
Verbrec was engaged to lead the commissioning effort following handover from construction.
The project was delivered in two key phases:
- Phase 1: Development of commissioning procedures, including nitrogen leak testing, nitrogen slug purging, and pipeline pressurisation to operating pressure.
- Phase 2: On-site execution, including the successful commissioning of the pipeline’s gas chromatograph and flow meter.
“The successful commissioning of the Atlas to Reedy Creek Pipeline reflects our commitment to delivering safe, high-quality energy infrastructure,” said Jarrod Woolnough, General Manager –Infrastructure Services, Verbrec.
“Our team took a methodical approach, with a strong focus on safety and performance. It’s rewarding to see the asset now in service, with our people continuing to ensure its reliability through daily operations,” he said.
Ongoing Operations and Maintenance
Following the successful completion of commissioning, Verbrec has now transitioned into the operations phase under an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract for the ARCP.
This contract win is a significant achievement that reflects our long-standing relationship with this leading domestic gas producer and our commitment to supporting Australia’s domestic gas supply,” said Verbrec CEO, Mark Read.
“Verbrec has worked with the client for several years, delivering Front End Engineering Design and Detailed Design for the pipeline. With that foundation, we’re ideally placed to operate and maintain this strategically important asset,” he said.
With more than 2,000 kilometres of gas pipelines currently under management across country, Verbrec continues to enable the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of energy for a more secure and sustainable future.
