How we supported Australia’s largest battery energy storage project

As Australia accelerates its energy transition, large-scale battery energy storage systems are playing a vital role in supporting renewable energy integration and stabilising the National Electricity Market.

At Eraring Power Station in New South Wales, one of Australia’s most significant battery projects is being developed to strengthen grid flexibility and support renewable energy uptake. Verbrec Asset Management was engaged to help prepare the facility for operation by establishing the systems, data and maintenance foundations needed for safe, efficient and long-term performance.

Comprehensive maintenance

Verbrec Asset Management was engaged to deliver a comprehensive asset and maintenance management framework within SAP, covering over 50,000 individual assets.

The engagement focused on ensuring the facility entered operation with a robust foundation for preventative maintenance planning, data integrity and system alignment. By putting this structure in place early, the project was positioned for safer commissioning, stronger operational control and more reliable long-term asset performance.

Establishing the backbone for operational readiness and system reliability

Our scope included six core readiness areas, each critical to commissioning and sustaining high-performance energy assets.

Verbrec developed and aligned the asset and maintenance framework to the client’s existing systems and industry best practices, creating a digitally connected operational foundation from the outset. The work embedded maintainability into the asset early, helping reduce future downtime risk, improve compliance and support a smoother transition from project delivery into operational ownership. A structured knowledge transfer and documentation process also supported sustainable handover and long-term usability.

Engineering a stable, decarbonised grid

Strengthening reliability, maintainability and grid-ready performance

Battery systems of this scale introduce new complexities across the asset lifecycle, from spares forecasting to risk-based criticality assessment. Verbrec helped bridge the gap between construction and operational readiness by applying deep expertise in maintenance planning, energy asset management and ERP system deployment. The result was a stronger operational foundation that supports safe, efficient performance, long-term resilience and grid stability as renewable generation continues to expand.
